The Covid-19 Lockdown is working in New Zealand.
Social distancing is working.
New Zealand has a low death toll.
Shutting down our Airports and borders so nobody can enter.
On the 23rd of March 2020 the prime minister of New Zealand decided to put the whole country in lockdown. “ Stay at home” was the message given to us New Zealanders . I believe that lockdown is working in New Zealand to reduce the number of cases we have and will get in the future. This is the first time our country has been in lockdown before. While this current pandemic is frightening, at least we know our government is staying calm, cool and collective.
Social distancing is a great way to stop covid-19.
Every country on this planet is or has experienced social distancing in one way or another, New Zealand is one of the fastest acting countries to shut down all businesses and families. Jacinda Ardern has set these rules to keep us safe and healthy. Singapore has around the same population as New Zealand but they entered lockdown after us and they ended up with over 20,000 cases. Also Ireland has a close population to us but had a tough time social distancing. Jacinda said and I quote “ going hard and going early” that seemed to work so far.
Only 21 cases of covid-19 have resorted as death in New Zealand.
New Zealand is in the lower death toll area but we still have quite a few. All of these deaths have been linked to elders with medical issues and small retirement villages. Covid-19 has hit about 188 countries with 4.76Million cases and 323 Thousand deaths and New Zealand has managed to keep the numbers low unlike other countries around us. Which means we are elitmating covid-19 slowly but surely, compared to the US where their numbers are still going up rapidly.
March 19th 2020 Jacinda Ardern made a live meeting about how we have shut down all airports and borders. “ While there remains no evidence of community outbreaks in New zealand to date” The government has made the decision to protect New Zealand by shutting down all borders. At 11:59pm March 19th Jacinda Ardern closed all borders until lockdown was lifted. Children and partners of New Zealand citizens and permanent residents will be allowed to enter. To this day New Zealand has still managed to get people home, stay safe and healthy.
Lockdown is working in New Zealand to reduce the number of cases we have. Down to the social distancing, closing borders, airports and having a lower death toll than other countries around us has resorted in reducing the numbers of cases. By “ going hard and going early” ( Jacinda Ardern ) we are on the way to eliminating covid-19. It is important that we stick to the rules so we don't undo all of our hard work and continue to follow gathering restrictions and social distancing.
